Fun Friday – 7 ways to celebrate Father’s Day

Father and son watching a game together

Father’s Day is just a blink away. Now is a great time to come up with a fun way to celebrate the “dad” in your life. Of course this includes hubbies, brothers, uncles, like a father figure and so on.
Are you looking to do something different for Father’s Day this year? Check out the list below of ways to celebrate:

1.      Play putt-putt golf

2.      Go bowling

3.      Build something – a bird house, or a Lego construction project

4.      Have family barbecue…that dad doesn’t have to be in charge of

5.      Go fishing

6.      Let dad have control of the TV remote for the day

7.      Create a funny video or just watch something funny together

BONUS

8.      Do whatever makes you happy
Take a look at how a few dads humorously celebrate being a day.

What are your fondest memories about your dad or father figure in your life? My grandfather played a key role in my life. I remember the way he used to leave coins on a chair or table for my brother and me. He did the same for my kids when they were younger. It was his way of giving us spending change.
Every year during my elementary and middle school days, we took an overnight trip to Niagara Falls, Canada. I remember buying souvenirs at the gift shop near the falls, visiting the museums, and watching the falls change colors at night.

During Easter breaks we would visit relatives in Indiana or Kentucky. Needless to say, my grandparents loved to travel.

My grandfather was there when I learned to ride a bike, drive a car (his car) and to drive me to college for move in day. Although my grandfather passed last year, I still say thanks for all the memories.
What memories do you cherish?

Happy Father’s Day to all of the dads, brother’s uncles and father figures who help to make life special.

Celebrating Father's Day – What are your fondest memories?

Artwork by my dad- Ron Scarbough

As a child I remember making pictures and signing Father’s Day cards for my grandfather, affectionately known as Daddy Bob. His gifts included the typical monogram handkerchiefs or a tie.
Some of my fondest memories with Daddy Bob are milestone times in my life. Occasionally he drove me to school during my middle school years. He let me drive his Cadillac during high school. He drove me back to school during college years, and he walked me down the aisle at my wedding.

It wasn’t until later years that I established a relationship with my father. It was a great treat to have him make my wedding cake. Some of my creative juices come from my father, as he is an artist by profession. I should clarify by saying I don’t draw, but I do have a passion for writing and other forms of art.
Today I send out words of gratitude to all of the special dads (grandfathers, husbands, brothers, uncles) for all that you do.

WHAT MAKES A DAD

God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,

The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagles flight,

The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,

Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew his masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it ... Dad
