Monday Musings – Fifty Shares of Grey…Hair

In a box of Crayola crayons I’ve only seen one shade of Grey. As for my aging body, there may be fifty shades and stages of grey. Do you remember those connect the dot puzzles from childhood? You move your pencil from one numbered dot to the next, until you reveal a picture.

In my case, you would start at the edge of my hairline, zig down to my eyebrow, zag over to my chin hair, then zip to my toes. The hairs sprout up around the body like a flower in bloom (maybe not as lovely). Is this considered the onset of aging? Maybe. If you’re feeling frustrated about the aging process, change your perspective; handle it with humor.

As I attempt to age gracefully, I know I have options, I can poke fun at my wild chin hairs, or my menopausal mid-section. I used to call my bulging belly a muffin top, but it has flourished into a bundt cake.

Have you ever heard the saying, “life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it?” Well, there are things worse than aging with a few grew hairs. Even if you have fifty shades of grey, you can still be fabulous.

What makes you feel fabulous? Do something that you don’t normally do. My bold statement was the day I decided to purchase red eyeglasses. I wanted something different, but didn’t know exactly what I was looking for. I tried on frames that were octagon shaped, oval, and oversized. Nothing tickled my fancy until the red frames landed on my face.

The red and grey seem to work okay together. Accessorizing always adds a nice flair to whatever you wear. When you put things in perspective, a little grey is better than the random aches and pains that come and go. And if the grey is really bothersome, there are plenty of hair dye products on the market.

Aging can be a horror movie, an action film, or a situational comedy. You decide. Change your fifty shades of grey (hair), into fifty shades of gratitude.
